Musicians in the Marine Corps

Music is deeply rooted in the history and ceremony of the United States Marine Corps. And it's an integral part of the Marine experience today. Marine Corps bands are assigned to Marine Corps field commands throughout the Continental United States, as well as in Hawaii and Japan. These units provide music to support military ceremonies and official activities, and Marine Corps community relations programs. In addition, there is the United States Marine Corps Drum and Bugle Corps — the elite Marine Corps band that serves the Commandant of the Marine Corps.

There are fifty musicians and one Marine band officer in each Marine Corps Band. Leadership opportunities include Band Officer, Band Master, Enlisted Conductor, Drum Major, Small Ensemble Leader and Instrument Repair Technician. These leaders receive formal schooling provided by the Marine Corps. Instrument Repair Technicians receive training at the Red Wing Instrument Repair School in Minnesota.
